Hanqin Tian, director of the Center for Earth System Science and Global Sustainability (CES3), is the corresponding author of the recently published article titled “Greenhouse Gas Budgets of Central and West Asia (2000–2020): A Significant Net Source to the Atmosphere”. The study produced the first comprehensive greenhouse gas assessment of 24 countries across the region. By combining state-of-the-art atmospheric and terrestrial models with national reporting systems, the study offers a rare full-spectrum look at emissions of CO₂, methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O) from 2000 to 2020.
