Over the course of the Spring 2023 semester, the BC delegation of faculty and students that represented the university in Sharm El Sheikh will be delivering a series of programs to share their experience of attending COP27 and broaden the conversation about the pressing dangers of climate change and the ways we, as individuals and as a campus community, can addrees climate change through advocacy, scholarship and professional avenues.

Join us to learn about the application process to become a student member of BC's delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28). COP28 will be held from Nov. 30 - Dec. 12, 2023 in Expo City, Dubai, UAE. At this session, you will hear from a Schiller Institute staff member who manages the process and from a few of the BC student delegates that attended COP27. We will offer light refreshments.
Attending the info session is not mandatory to apply. A campus-wide Call for Applications will be sent to all non-graduating students and faculty in late April.

BC delegation headed to COP27
In November 2022, Boston College sent a delegation of eight undergraduates, six graduate students, and five faculty members to observe the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. This initiative, coordinated by the Schiller Institute, provided participants with the opportunity to attend public events and exhibits related to international climate negotiations.
COP27 Opened Eyes and Minds of BC Delegation
In February 2023, Boston College's Schiller Institute published reflections from its 20-member delegation who attended the COP27 U.N. Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Delegates, including students and faculty, shared insights on climate negotiations, youth involvement, and the diverse challenges faced by global activists, emphasizing the profound impact of firsthand exposure to international climate discussions.
BC to Attend United Nations Climate Conference for Second Consecutive Year
In November 2022, Boston College will send a select group of students and faculty to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, for COP27, marking the University's second consecutive participation in the annual United Nations climate summit. The delegation, chosen from approximately 300 applicants, will engage in negotiations focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and financial support for climate initiatives in developing countries.
NYT’s Sengupta, BC Delegation Speak on COP27
In November 2022, Boston College's delegation to COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, engaged in discussions with New York Times correspondent Somini Sengupta, focusing on climate policy and the role of youth in global climate initiatives. The delegation emphasized the importance of integrating youth perspectives into climate negotiations and the need for actionable commitments from world leaders.
