They came from 43 colleges and universities for the Deloitte FanTAXtic regional case-study competition. And one of the 60 teams from those schools emerged on top: a five-member group of undergraduates from the Carroll School of Management.
The student tax competition—a mix of case simulation, role playing, and presentations—took place at Deloitte’s downtown Boston offices, November 11–13.
“Boston College demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively to solve a complex business case simulation,” Deloitte said in announcing the results. “The team was also recognized for the quality of their overall presentation to a panel of live and virtual judges using the organization’s video conferencing capabilities.”
The accounting students will now go to Deloitte’s national learning and leadership development center, near Dallas, for the national event January 13–15. There, they’ll compete with the winners of eight other regional contests for more than $50,000 in individual scholarships and institutional awards.
The five are: Andrew Breckel ’17, Nikita Patel ’17, Ellen Ubl ’17, Marissa Cohen ’19, and Ryan Pierpont ’19. With them all the way was Edward Taylor, faculty advisor and lecturer in accounting.
