  • All students can choose the following:
    • Course of study (macro or clinical)
    • One of six fields of practice, which requires both a practice and policy course in advanced practice
    • Two yearlong practicum experiences where coursework and experiential learning combine to support a well-rounded practitioner

  • Students can take five electives, which are the best way to customize their curriculum plan, to deepen their knowledge, or to venture into an area of practice that is new and fascinating.

Career Pathways

Our alumni are making a lasting impact in outpatient clinics, state agencies, substance abuse programs, and more.

Our clinical graduates are well-prepared to work in a variety of healthcare settings that often require trauma-informed skills. Settings include:

  • hospital-based services (inpatient medicine, emergency room/crisis)
  • long-term acute care
  • in-home healthcare
  • healthcare for unhoused individuals
  • skilled nursing facilities
  • hospice care
  • grassroots organizations

Our macro graduates are developing programs at state agencies, designing community relations initiatives at medical centers, and providing their expertise at healthcare consulting organizations. With Massachusetts leading the way in national health care reform, students are exposed to—and trained for successful careers in—the rapidly changing world of health and behavioral health.

Why BC School of Social Work?

We do more than talk about inclusion—programs like our Black Leadership Initiative and Latinx Leadership Initiative are redefining diversity education and expanding access to opportunities for historically marginalized groups.

Students spend time in the field, working with real people. Our robust field placements—both locally and abroad—allow you to put your learning into practice, gain hands-on training, and form valuable relationships.

Our supportive and inclusive culture begins on our campus and extends to our alumni network, where more than 9,000 BCSSW grads continue to uplift one another after graduation, offering career guidance and networking opportunities.
