In the first three years, the program collected 27,311 school items valued at nearly $47,000 from the public and Genesis employees.
Hilton announced it will cut its environmental footprint in half and double its social impact investment by 2030. With this commitment, Hilton will become the first major hotel company to institute science-based targets to reduce carbon emissions and send zero soap to landfill. Additionally, the company will also double the amount it spends with local and minority-owned suppliers, and double its investment in programs to help women and youth around the world. These goals are part of Hilton’s Travel with Purpose corporate responsibility strategy to further the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
KeyBank Foundation recently announced its investment of $500,000 in The Pittsburgh Promise, an organization dedicated to driving regional economic growth and promoting higher education aspirations among urban youth. The investment from KeyBank will go towards funding crucial scholarships. “At Key, we are dedicated to connecting our neighbors to opportunities that allow them to thrive and this is one of the many ways we can accomplish that,” said Dwayne Finney, KeyBank Western Pennsylvania Market President.
Machias Savings Bank awarded 18 nonprofit organizations with a total of $100,000 in community development grants. The bank aimed to support organizations that prioritize financial health, community wellness, youth and education, and economic development. Many projects supported by the bank will help create or retain jobs, revitalize communities in the bank’s service area, and support affordable housing and other projects that empower low-to-moderate income individuals and/or families. “The key to creating a thriving community is supporting the efforts of our nonprofit partners in areas of workforce development, affordable housing, entrepreneurship and basic needs,” said Melissa Denbow, vice president of corporate giving and community relations at Machias Savings Bank.
Merck is aiming to help foster greater diversity, equity, and inclusion across the research and development ecosystem in collaboration with Beacon of Hope, a Novartis-led initiative. Increased diversity in clinical trials proves to be vital to fully understanding how human bodies respond to drugs and therapies. Through the initiative, Merck will administer its clinical trials through four Historically Black Medical School clinical trial Centers of Excellence at Morehouse School of Medicine, Howard University College of Medicine, Meharry Medical College, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
Sempra Energy has begun to test and demonstrate a carbon-negative, waste-to-energy modular system at its Southern California Gas subsidiary’s facility in Los Angeles. The project was designed to convert organic waste from California landfills into carbon-negative hydrogen and renewable natural gas. The success of this initiative would benefit hard-to-electrify sectors, including heavy-duty transportation, by providing methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heavy industrial processes.
