Grubhub, the food delivery service used by BC Dining and numerous Universities and local restaurants, recently had a data breach. Major Internet sites are breached from time to time, and this incident is a great reminder why you should always be extra-cautious.

WHO WAS IMPACTED

If you use Grubhub, whether for BC Dining or outside of BC, it’s likely your cell phone number and email address were taken by bad actors, but NOT your payment information.

WHAT TO DO

  • Change your Grubhub Password. It is always a good idea to change your password if you think there is a chance your account has been compromised as part of breach.
  • Be Extra Cautious. As this breach exposed phone numbers and email addresses to bad actors, anyone affected by the breach may be targeted in future text message or email scams. Be extra vigilant when receiving an unexpected email or text message. Review our tips on how to protect yourself from phishing scams: bc.edu/emailsecurity.
  • Use unique passwords for your online accounts. Create complex passwords and avoid reusing them across multiple sites.
